International Union of Architects
The XXII World Congress of Architecture of the International Union of Architects will convene in July 2005 in Istanbul and will be hosted by the Chamber of Architects of Turkey.
An international student competition with a UNESCO grand prize is being organized on this occasion.
The Scientific Committee of the Congress has chosen "EXTREME" CREATING SPACE IN EXTREME AND EXTRAORDINARY CONDITIONS as the theme of the competition.
The competition aims to provide an opportunity to the future architects to exercise their creative powers in the face of challenging conditions by designing spaces for different functions chosen by them at places which are extraordinary in terms of their geographic location, topography, flora, climate, social, economical and political conditions.
The competition will be launched on 1 September 2004.
Final submissions will be in March 2005.
The international jury will meet in May 2005.

La Casa en el Aire es un proyecto desarrollado a comienzos del 2003 en Costa Rica por el estudio de arquitectura generativa Su-Studio. Se trata de la realización de una vivienda privada construida enteramente en bambú, utilizando para ello un equilibrio entre técnicas tradicionales de montaje y un avanzado software de creación propia para la concepción y el diseño.
La famosa frase de R. Burckminster Fuller "No luches contra las fuerzas, utilízalas" ha estado muy presente en la idea original de La Casa en el Aire; un sistema de sinergias donde el comportamiento de "…sistemas enteros no puede ser anticipado por la conducta de ninguna parte del sistema considerada por si misma".
La distribución natural de fuerzas en el interior del edificio adquiere el estatus de sistema. Un sistema complejo que engloba igualmente la interrelación de la estructura con el entorno exterior, tanto a un nivel físico como de comunicación.

Challenge: Design a sustainable camping shelter - a 'green' tent - for use in the Mojave Desert in and around Joshua Tree National Park. We are looking for innovative solutions that explore nature, culture and experience.
Eligibility: Open to anyone with great design ideas inspired by Southern California's green lifestyle. Collaborative and multi-disciplinary teams are encouraged (i.e. a designer and an artist, a graphic designer and a rock climber).
