The Scotswood Expo Architectural Competition is a new international design contest promoted by Newcastle City Council for one of the country’s largest regeneration projects. Run by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Competitions Office, the competition seeks fresh thinking in the design of new housing.
Our aim is to select six design teams to develop innovative housing designs which respond to the challenges of environmental sustainability, adaptability, new ways of living and designing beautiful buildings. The Competition seeks to develop designs for plots to create a family of demonstration houses or prototypes that will be built for the Expo event and sold on thereafter.

All designers who participate in this unique competition will be part of the solution to the Global Warming Crisis by replacing one of their old light bulbs with a compact fluorescent light bulb provided by The Design Green Project. Additionally, there will be a tree planted in their name and 50% of all proceeds will be donated to the StopGlobalWarming.org fund, just for entering.
Due to incompatiablities in voltage and connections, designers who participate outside the United States will not receive a light bulb, however, a tree will be planted in their name and 50% of their entry fee will be donated to the StopGlobalWarming.org fund.

Outstanding architecture not only meets high aesthetic criteria, but also fulfils its function – right down to the last detail. Only when aesthetics and technology combine to form a whole is exceptional architecture created. DETAIL's aim and raison d'être is to present these solutions to a wider audience.
Following the large International response to the 2005 and 2007 DETAIL Prize competitions and the success of the symposium at the BAU trade fair, DETAIL, in collaboration with the Bavarian Chamber of Architects and the Association of German Architects - Bavaria (BDA Bayern e.V.), will once again award the DETAIL Prize in 2009. Prizes are awarded to buildings that feature especially well-designed, groundbreaking and technically-innovative details within an outstanding overall design.
By choosing new categories, a greater emphasis will be placed on cross-sectoral connections and interdisciplinary networking. For the first time the DETAIL Prize will be expanded to include an industrial prize and an honorary prize.
The DETAIL Prize is awarded to innovative details incorporated into outstanding overall designs. The products should not only resolve technical problems but also, and more importantly, form a significant detail and play a decisive role in the overall design.
The DETAIL Industry Prize is aimed at manufacturers and developers of innovative building products and technical solutions, as well as at architects and engineers who have made use of these products. Entrants should show how their innovative products, integrated into the overall concept of a reference building, play a distinctive role and contribute to the success of the overall design.
Only projects built to completion and finished after 1st January 2004 may be submitted for the main prize and the special prizes. The exception is the special prize for students, which recognises student projects from 1 January 2004 onwards.
The competition is open to architects, structural engineers, interior designers and landscape architects around the world who are authorised to use these professional designations. The special award for students is open to graduates and students of the corresponding fields.

* Fernando Távora, o movimento moderno, em Portugal, após o 1.º Congresso Nacional de Arquitectura, Lisboa 1948, a Escola do Porto
* Habitar, a casa, outros programas de edificação
* Planos de Urbanização
* Reabilitação de espaços urbanos
* Permanência, continuidade e transformação de edifícios, conservação e restauro
* O estudo da arquitectura popular: o Inquérito à Arquitectura Popular Portuguesa (1955)
* A história da arquitectura e da arte portuguesa
- Vasco Fernandes (Grão Vasco), a pintura quinhentista
- O Renascimento coimbrão, a igreja e o convento de Santa Cruz,
Nicolau Chaterrene e João de Ruão
- Nasoni, o Barroco do Norte de Portugal
* Pensar e desenhar
* A viagem
* Fernando Távora e Álvaro Siza Vieira
