Schindler Award for Architecture: "Access for All"

A Conceptual Competition for European Schools of Architecture
Under the sponsorship of Schindler, the Elevator and Escalator Company

A world accessible to people with differing capabilities:
Architecture and city planning for healthy and disabled individuals alike -
a contribution to the European Year of People with Disabilities.

This conceptual competition is open to all students in their two last years of study at a European university or college of architecture. They may apply directly on this website, as individuals or as project teams made up of not more than three students, by filling out the online application. A confirmation will be returned to them or to their class representative, assistant teacher or professor within seven days. Each entering student receives an official entry number as confirmation of having been accepted to the competition. This entry number must hence be mentioned in all further communication with the competition management.

If more than 12 students of the same school apply for the Schindler Competition, that school qualifies for the school competition under the following stipulations:
· Constant support be given to the participants by their teachers during the design process.
· The school offer at least two specific lectures on the issue of “accessibility”.
· The school pre-select the students projects according to Article 4.

Pre-selection by the schools

European architectural schools with more than twelve participants may conduct their own pre-selection process. Such schools will subsequently organize an internal competition among each group of twelve students to select the one project which will be submitted to the European competition finals. Example: A final-year course of 30 students may submit three projects for the finals (12 + 12 + 6 = 3 entries).

The competition management must be advised that these projects have already been pre-selected. Along with the pre-selected projects, the school must send a name list of all students from whom the winning entry was selected, as well as a brief descriptive (text, 1 drawing typical for the project) of each students project. The school has to integrate the subject matter of the competition in two lectures and must send a list of the titles of these lectures.

The pre-selected entries will thus bypass the formal pre-selection process by the competition jury and be directly accepted for the finals.
